New centre record of £7000 at J36
The popular annual show and sale of BFL rams and females saw averages up across the board. The £7000 sale topper was the much admired West Biggins T13 from WM Reed & Sons, Lands Farm. Sired by Highberries H2 and out of a Carry House Jackpot Dam this ram found its new home with S & T Fawcett, Fold House. Two ram lambs reached £3000, firstly for the pre sale show champion Cottage T13 from J Bell, Birniehall Farm, this boy goes to join the Castle Hill flock with P & A Fell, Ulverston. The second ram lamb to reach £3000 was the 2nd prize Maqueston T4 from A Brown, Thornhill who also sold to South Cumbria this time going home with AR Edmondson, Hawkswell. H Huddleston, Carnforth reached £2800 for Snab Green T9, he sold to Paul Hallam, High Birkwith. Two lambs at £2000, firstly Otterburn Lodge T8 from JA & R Caton, Otterburn selling to RG & H Preece, Thornbush Farm. Also at £2000 was Carry House T54 from RD Archer & Son, Hexham with this lamb selling to County Durham with HW & MA Alderson, Howgill Grange.
Shearling rams received a huge level of interest, selling to £2200 twice, firstly for Red Way S2 from L White, Derbyshire with this home selling Red Way S1 to £1800 both going home with J Handley, Gunnerfleet. The second shearling to reach £2200 was Lakeland Valley S1 from R Lawrence, Greaves which sold to NR & CS Hodgson, Ravenstonedale. D Sharp, Flodder Halls consignment reached £2000 for Flodder Hall S3 bought by TLB & J Knowles, High Borrowbridge. £1800 was paid for Midlock S74 from J Wight & Son, Biggar, winner of the shearling class & reserve champion in the pre sale show this ram sold to S Dugdale Ltd, Tilberthwaite.
Aged rams to £1500 for M39 Hewgill from AR Edmondson, Hawkswell, this 2 shear selling to SJ & C Handley, Thornton Hall. Next at £1300 was the Midlock bred 3 shear from CM & J Stott, Laund Farm selling to S Dugdale, Tilberthwaite.
The sale commenced with all classes of females, which saw buyers keen to secure additional stock to expand flock bloodline. Gimmer shearlings sold to a top of £450 for a Black Edge, Midlock J3 sired shearling from Messrs Mycock & Bright, Buxton, who sold other shearlings at £380 twice and £350. The consignment of shearlings from RT Parker of the Bleasdale flock sold to £300 on two occasions. Gimmer lambs sold to £250 from the Long Garth flock consigned by R&LM Berry, Cartmel Fell who also sold a two crop Lunesdale P38 ewe at £350.
